News Update: New Credentials

Amzim Marine hasn’t been around for a very long time. We opened our doors in 2012, and since then, we’ve gone from working in a garage on Gary’s property to a 12,000 sq ft climate controlled storage facility and workshop. Our reputation in the SWFL boating community as “The go to shop when no one else can figure it out” has been a point of pride for us. With all that said, we wouldn’t be who we are if we didn’t have the amazing family of techs and professionals that support us. Our office staff are dedicated to ensuring that our customers are happy with every step of their boat’s life, but the real superstars of Amzim are our Fully Certified Technicians. 

 

Our techs, Laz and Zach have been with us since the beginning; working hard in our original (smaller) shop, learning and growing under Gary’s tutelage. They have gained so much knowledge since we first opened our doors, and continue to learn more every day. With new innovations in Outboard technology seemingly coming out every year, Amzim makes it a point to constantly evolve with the latest and greatest Mercury has to offer. This is why we're so proud to announce that they are both now Outboard Certified by Mercury! 

 

Laz has been with Amzim since its inception, and it shows. With experience on just about every single system on a boat, Laz is the guy to go to if you want your boat rebuilt from the ground up (and believe us, he's done it multiple times!). If one had to identify a specialty for him (which is pretty difficult), he would be our expert rigger; from repowering with a new motor to installing state-of-the-art GPS & stereo systems, he has seen it all. But he wasn’t always the guru that he has become. According to Laz “When I first started, I was trying to put an impeller into a raw water pump; something that is super common. I sat there for 25 minutes wrestling with getting this thing to slide into its proper place, which is difficult because the impeller is larger than the hole its supposed to go in. Gary walked up and suggested that I use a bit of Dawn dish soap to lubricate it, and it popped right in with little effort. These little things make a huge difference, and in getting my certification, I learned so many great efficiency improvements that can be huge time savers, like this.” 

 

While he may be our youngest family member, Zach has proven time and time again that he is one of our most capable employees! Zach has been behind the wheel of a boat since he was tall enough to reach it. Now that he is a licensed captain and Mercury Outboard Certified, he ensures that every time we need to pick up a customer's boat, that it is treated with the respect that it deserves. Plus, when it gets to our shop, he uses the forklift to expertly maneuver it into tight spaces! Don't let his height fool you; we've seen him carry a 100lb manifold into the bilge of a Formula, and install it himself! “I once forgot to put on a simple o-ring on while reassembling a Verado, got it all back together with no help or advice. I was really proud of my work. Then, when I went to start it to test it, oil started spewing everywhere…it was a mess…and then I had to undo and redo all my work for one little o-ring. Suffice it to say, I’m glad that I took all those classes to get my certification. I know I won’t be making that mistake again.” 

 

In other news, we've recently added Anson Shultz to our family, who has been in luxury automotive painting for 30 years. He has been working with us for several years now, patching holes and dings, and touching up our customer’s beautiful Formula paint jobs, including unfortunate nicks and scratches on brand new boats fresh off the transport. In addition to fixing small patches, he has also done complete resprays for several of our customers. With certifications in PPG, DuPont, Sherwin Williams, Spies Hecker, and 3M, Anson is an expert painter who can ensure any cosmetic damage to your boat will be undetectable. 

 

With these three out in the field, Amzim Marine will only further its reputation for being the most knowledgable and capable professionals in SWFL. We look forward to better serving our customers, and continuing our journey to be your go-to shop for all your boating needs.
